[One of pair] Woman's raised wooden sandal, Komachi style, carved from one piece of wood, lacquered in black. Covered with three panels of woven rush or rice straw. Thong (hanao) of rope covered with brocade, probably silk, with motifs of cranes and plants in gold. Beneath the toe section where the thong passes through the sole, a metal cover attached with nails. Three characters on each shoe heel, meaning unclear. Old handwritten label beneath toe part reads 'Japanese outdoor sandals.' 214 long x 92 w x 70 h.
