dagger (general & multipurpose); knife (general & multipurpose)

Knife or dagger. The blade is lanceolate with a bevelled cross section and is re-worked from a steel file. The handle is made from whalebone bound with bark and hide strips. Rare and atypical type of Northwest Coast dagger, not well represented in museum collections. The bevelled cross section and use of a file indicate that it is probably Tlingit.
