Round, copper coin of one mil with a round hole within a square frame at the centre, issued in Hong Kong dated 1863 when Hong Kong was a British Colony . It has a crown and the English letters "VR", an abbreviation of Victoria Regina [Queen Victoria], around the round hole, surrounded by English inscriptions "Hong Kong" on top, "one mil" at bottom and the year of production "1863" across the obverse. Four Chinese characters meaning 'Hong Kong one cash' arranged from top-bottom-right-left on the reverse. This coin was the first coinage issued in Hong Kong, 23 years after it became a British Colony in 1841. It was minted by the Royal Mint, London in 1863.
