"value": "Named after the guitarist and inventor, \nthe Les Paul Gold Top by Gibson was first issued in 1952. It went through a number of developments. From 1958 to 1960 it was made with a sunburst finish. This model became known as the \u2018Les Paul Standard\u2019. Eric Clapton, and other blues-rock guitarists of the mid-1960s, played the Les Paul Standard at high volume through powerful amplifiers. This gave a thick, sustained sound, sought after by many players. The increasing demand for early Les Paul Standards led to the reissue of the model in 1975, since when it has been made in a variety of finishes."
