Pipa. A pear-shaped, plucked, four stringed instrument. The whole body is of light coloured wood. The back is rounded and integral with the neck. The neck is faced with ivory to form a series of arched frets. There are at least eleven thin wood frets on the table. The ivory-faced tail-piece is glued to the table. The top of the neck is backward turned to form a peg-box for four fluted hexagonal pegs, and surmounted by a formal forward turning device as a head. Lacks two ivory frets and at least one wooden fret. One string defective. No splitting. Nut missing.
