Eleven-keyed serpent. Index card reads: Serpent. (U.S. 262 cancelled) Anonymous. Noted also as No. 190a in Bull Catalogue. Eleven brass keys, flat, mounted in saddles. Brass upper bend. Supporting rods to three uppermost bends. Noted by Bull as having nine keys and as having been used with 15.10.48/190 at Kelstone church near Bath. Mid nineteenth century. Leatherwork fair and capable of restoration. The keywork needs extensive restoration and replacement of part of a broken key. The present white-metal mouthpiece may have been used on this instrument, but seems unsuitable.
