Wax covered no detail cast, in wooden base.

This clay cast shows the second stage of the 'Lost Wax' bronze casting process. This stage is not usually seen as it is destroyed in the process of making the plaque. This base would have a layer of beeswax added with sculpted and built up details which would then be covered in soft clay which is then fired in a kiln, melting the wax and leaving a clay mould which can be filled with molten metal.
