Painted wooden face mask with sisal hair and two animal teeth. Used in the "Dance of the Little Old Men".
Worn by young male performers in Mexico as part of the dance of the Viejitos (old men). The rest of the costume includes a wide brimmed sombrero, baggy clothes, and a walking stick. The danccers begin by leaning heavily on their walking sticks, then leap around energetically to show agility before appearing to become tired. This pattern repeats multiple times which is very comedic. While the dance originated in the Michoacan region, it has now spread all over Mexico and is performed on festival days.
