This file includes handwritten inventory lists of natural history specimens dated 1891-1905, a list of duplicate specimens and a list of British beasts and birds extinct in modern times. There are also a significant number of drawings of many of the specimens referred to in the lists. The drawings are categorized as follows:- marsupials and anteaters, small mammals, horned mammals, rhinoceros, birds, monkeys, walrus and giraffe (oversize) and one envelope is simply marked drawings and contains examples of prehistoric species and reptiles. Also included is a note from David Allen (former museum librarian) that states 'these are probably preparatory drawings and plans for the North Hall, by Frank Slade who was Naturalists' Assistant from 1894. On leaving the Horniman he worked as a natural history illustrator and died in the 1960s'. An origianl copy and a photocopy of a severly damaged letter to the Horniman from Frank Slade is also included.
