One of eight papercuts from Nanjing in Jiangsu province. Black papercut depicting two carp flanking a gateway, which is topped with lingzhi fungus with lotus blossom below, encircled by a band of floral scrolls. Done using knife-cutting technique, pasted on cream paper. The imagery in this papercut refers to a legend of a carp leaping over a Dragon's gate, or longmen, and itself turning into a dragon. This symbolises perseverance and success in passing examinations.
