Glazed mug with transfer print of an exchange between two cartoon characters, with the legend at the top: ''A Cock and Bull Story". Reads as follows: (on the left above an image of a cockerel with a man's head) 'Cock-a-doodle-doo, I'll soon come o'er to you/I'll Fight true game and crow my Fame/And make you all look blue!' (on the right above an image of a bull with a man's head): 'You impertinent Cock, I'll have you to know/on this side the Brook, you never shall crow/& if you're not quick and give up you jaw/I'll teach you the nature of English club-law.' The cock and bull are each on the shore separated bya channel; thus the cock represents a foppish Frenchman; the bull is John Bull, the image of English strength. Red and black band around rim.
