shoe (footwear)

One of a pair of flat shoes made from birch bark. Wide strips of bark are woven in close tabby weave to form the soles of the shoes, with the upper across the front of the foot formed of more widley spaced tabby woven strips. Cords of twined vegetal strips are attached to the heel, which would be wound round the ankle to secure the shoe to the wearer's foot. There is some fraying at the front of the shoe, as a result of use.
