teapot (food service)

Unglazed red stoneware teapot of bulbous form with two knobs and two protuberances on shoulder, of which each has two pierced holes for connecting two brass overhanging handles. It has pewter mounted flanged rim, base and curved spout. The body is decorated in overlay pewter with two dragons chasing flaming pearls, a large 'shou' character (longevity) flanked by two bats at the back, and a large stylised bat design surrounded the spout. A label printed with maker's detail on base: 'Yung Hor' (maker), 44, Dorward Road, Weihaiwei (address), "The only reliable maker of these teapots in the district."
